A long drive to Namibia...

Hello all, this is our blog of our recent trip to South Africa and Namibia. We've long talked about Namibia as a holiday destination, but there have always been reasons not to do it ... until this year.

We enlisted the help of Philip who ended up planning the whole thing, and rented a 4x4 with full camping equipment from Kea in Johannesburg.

Philip, Renate and the two girls, Chantal and Natasha joined us on our adventure, this is the story of an epic trip!

The four cousins, from the left Conor (10), Chantal (8), Cillian (4) and Natasha (5). A getting-to-know each-other day at the Botanical Gardens in Roodepoort. We're all just about to climb the hill to look at the Black Eagle nest.
We drove through Botswana to Namibia, this is the approach to Windhoek from the east, but it could be almost anywhere on our journey. The bush here has very few people and it's possible to drive for hours without seeing anyone at all.
Our camping vehicle with the roof tents. You'll notice that Paul is wearing a beanie, fingerless gloves, a scarf and heavy jacket. What you don't see is the long-johns I have on underneath it all. It was so cold that a 2L bottle of diet coke left out overnight froze solid!
Conor, getting the hang of getting dressed while sitting down...
Another endless vista, this time southbound out of Windhoek

Philip's vehicle. He's gone for a trailer with attached tent which has just about everything you could possibly want, including a bar!
Namibia is both desolate and picturesque...

The Bourdin brothers working out where we need to go next...

Our home for the next 3 weeks...
Fiona struggled a little with the early mornings...

Fiona (still asleep) cooking breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen (except it didn't have a colander)
Our camp was very comfortable. Good food, cold drinks, outdoors, perfect...

Natasha was very helpful with the washing up...
